    Overview of Trademark Renewal

As the name suggests, Trademark Renewal means renewing the trademark so that the same is not removed from the Trademark Journal and the business entity or the individual still has the right over the said trademark. Once the Trademark gets registered, it is valid for ten years, and one should renew the trademark before the expiration date. A notice is sent at the registered office address before the expiration of the trademark as a reminder to the owner of the trademark to get it renewed before it lapses.

One can renew the trademark six months before the date of expiration. However, suppose the entity or the individual still forget to renew it. In that case, they can renew the trademark between 06 to 12 months post the expiry of the trademark by paying a fine through a process known as “Restoration”. Furthermore, the trademark will be removed from the Trademark Journal if it is still not renewed after 12 months of its expiration.
